The strap is sized larger to accommodate blankets, water bottles, or extra layers that can fit beneath the straps as well. To use the strap, pull the loops out of either end, then slip them around the widest part of the folded up mat. Tighten the loops around the mat, then adjust the sizing by tying a simple knot in the top part of the strap.
